“I always wanted to be a farmer. There is a tradition of that in my family.”
The family tree:
Stars die all the time. Is part of the eternal movement of the universe.
Long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, a star died. It was unexpected. Somehow the intelligent creatures who lived in the planets around that blue star didn't predict that event. The planets started to die without the blessings of the warm light of their sun. The litttle creatures panicked. How they would survive to such a disaster?
The powerful interplanetary computer found a new planet in a close system, Aridia. It was hot, inhospitable, a desert place without much water, trees and with strange but harmless animals. It would be possible to live there.
The planets started to organize themselves to immigrate. But like in the mythical story about the Ark and the Flood, not all living creatures could be chosen to be saved. A very complicated lottery system was set and some lucky inhabitants were chosen to travel.
Test Subject was one of the lucky ones. As a very advanced Research Computer Mobile Unit, he was chosen to be the Administrative Manager of the new colony. His mission would be to control the machines sent to build the colony and help the settlers. Most of the people don't like him but he doesn't care. He only cares about life and living creatures. It's his mission. He will accomplish.
Wolfram K (by failhappens) arrived in the desertic planet two years ago. He lives in the so called Colony One, where the machines are building facilities and houses and people are trying to grow plants.
He can't really call the place that he lives a “house”. The whole place looks much more like a refugee camp but he is not complaining. He was the only one from his family who was drawn to move from their dying planet, to survive. Wolfram miss his family. He works hard as a construction worker and patiently waits till the Administrative Office tells him that he is finally chosen to have a mate. He dreams every lonely night with his future mate and wonders how she will be.
The Administrative Office Secretary asked him to be patient. Is all he hears from them. He can't understand why is taking so long to find a mate to him. He is not picky. He had understood that everybody was anxious to populate the place. He misunderstood something?
Wolfram hates the machines and their burocracy.
For now, he must to content himself with the company of the adorable furry creatures that lives in this dry planet and keep dreaming with the day that he would be able to hold his own offspring in his arms.
Loop Kat (by kathsy) is one of the few people who, actually, love the machines. The polite and gentle Test Subject fascinates her. He is intelligent, he is beautiful, he is charming. She knows what she is doing, she is comdemning herself to not be part of the colony, to be forbidden to mate and procreate... but she keeps imagining how must be nice to spend the summer nights watching the stars with that sweet machine as her companion. The more she thinks about, the more she doesn't care about what the others will say. Maybe this is faith. Maybe is true love.
One night, Loop decides to do what she not suppose to and open her heart to Test Subject. To her surprise, he accepts her affection in a very calm way, almost smiling – if machines can smile. Loop is happy. She knows that she will be considered out of the game now, but she doesn't care. All she cares is that sweet smile of him.
Iwa don't miss the old planet or the old life. She never knew them. The only life that she knows is the way they live in Aridia.
She is a happy girl. She just got her small plot of land in Colony One to start her own small farm. She have no much interplanetary money, her family is poor, but she don't care. She is active, she don't mind to work, she is always in good mood. She can do whatever it takes to build a good life. And she have her loving family to support her, like her parents, Ogi and Nive (by simsforaranya).
Life is not easy to any of them. They must dig the planet hard clay soil to find things that they can sell. Jobs aren't easy also, specially for those who are not much skilled. But Ogi is tenacious and he keeps digging and digging till finally find an ark with precious metal. That help them to improve their modest camping with some goodies and a small pond to fish.
Ogi is thrilled. He can finally buy a small cage and get a colorful wild small bird to make him company while Nive is working.
The good spirit of his mate keeps Nive going. He is tired of working in the Aquarium during the night and digging the lot during the day. But his beloved Ogi wants to marry and wants more children and Nive would do anything in this world to make him happy.
Ogi love his family. He is very proud of Iwa and he can't wait to give her some siblings. He also can't wait to have some grandchildren so he asks Iwa if the Administrative Office said something about her mate. Iwa just got a letter that morning, telling her that her partner was finally drawn. She don't know much about him but the letter said that she can expect a visit from him really soon.
Ogi is thrilled with the good news.
That night, the family reunites to spend some time together. They go to Aridia downtown to dance, drink and play pool.
Elasa, Ogi's mother, have great news. She and her beloved Winston Row (perchalicious) just got the papers to finally marry. She invites the whole family to a small ceremony in the old desert temple in the next afternoon. They don't have to spend any money on it, the party costs would be paid by the Administrative Office.
The wedding is a small, simple and warm celebration. Iwa is beyond happy in see her dear family so festive and dreams with her own special day, in a near future, she hopes.
The yellow cutie is Elm Suli (by dutchxfan), a dear friend of the family.
Soon enough, Elasa walks around the colony proudly showing her small bump. Her family is about to grow.
Winston finds double energy to take care of the small planting. He must afford good things to his unborn baby so he works hard.
Iwa wants to follow the family's example. She works hard too.
She doesn't have much money to make the big exuberant plantation that she have on her mind but she have enough to start. The days pass fast and she wonders where is her betrothed and why he didn't appeared to visit her yet.
She have no idea how he looks like. Would be he handsome? Would be a nice person? Would he care to live a farmer's life?
What if she is not pretty enough to him?
Iwa saves some money, digging up stuff, and goes to the colony's commercial center to buy a pretty dress to herself. It's expensive (400 simoleans!) but it's her dream. She must try her best to make it come true.
She continues to work hard, waiting for the day that her betrothed will come for a visit.
The Administrative Office says nothing, just that they already issued a letter to him to inform that he have a mate. Iwa is nervous.
Finally, in an afternoon with clouded sky, a strong blue man stop by.
He is different than everything that she imagined. He is not exactly... cute or handsome but he seems to be a nice person. They talk for hours and Iwa finds herself emjoying the conversation. He is timid, he doesn't speak much but his eyes are sweet. She likes him.
His visit is short and Iwa returns to her work. At least now, she knows him. Her dreams can have a face. A real one.
Stay tuned for more...
Notes:
- Silenzii is my nickname at Livejournal
- You can see the first breeding that resulted in Iwa here. The sims were drawn, I didn't chose them.
- You can see how I got these sims here. It's a breeding process, Iwa is the final result. The sims were drawn, I didn't chose them.
- Wolfram was drawn to be the first spouse. I felt thrilled. He is such a sweetie. <3
- I played all houses for few sims-days to keep their memory clean, to update all of them to Free Time (I don't have AL installed), to decorate the lots a little bit to give me some background for the pictures, to eliminate money (so the spouses won't bring significant amount when they marry) and to "teach" the sims some autonomy. Only the sims who already have partners from the first round have gender preference assigned. I preferred to put all of them in lots instead of make them townies. None of the sims were upgraded to Uni. All of the non-playable sims have jobs that were drawn.
- There are a lot of exotique aliens in my game. All of them are NPC or townies. I got all of them at MTS2. Wait till you see the other pets.
- I promise that I'm going to remake this colorful sky with better images and with an unique ID but for now, I'm using the old one that is actually just a recolor of the same object originally made by chris997 (you can find the original sky at MTS2). If even so you are interested in this sky, drop me a note.
- The Golden Apples of the Sun is the title of a wonderful book by Ray Bradbury.
